Hard surface modeling is when an object has very distinctive lines and corners but rounded edges. The objects are also usually man made.

The biggest problem I faced was the icing in the bowl originally had a donut "ghost" at the bottom. I had to then sculpt it out because I knew once the bowl has glass you would be able to see it.
